I am Tom Hansen and one of the 3 candidates running together for our open Board positions.
As an incumbent Board member and Assistant Treasurer of TLQMA I am running for the Board of Directors to finish the job I have dedicated myself to since my appointment in 2023. Here are a few accomplishments I share with my fellow Board Members:
- We successfully negotiated with the bankruptcy trustees and their lawyers, with SH4 and their lawyers, and with Judge Johnson of the Federal Bankruptcy Court, to acquire our golf course and restaurant properties.
- We reviewed many candidates and selected Blue Star Resorts and Golf to partner with us and assist with management our new facilities.
- We put a ballot measure together, held numerous community town halls and successfully got out the vote.
- We negotiated two complex contracts with Blue Star to manage these new facilities.
- We have managed the enormous work of rehabilitating both the course and restaurant erasing 20 years of neglect and mismanagement.
Now comes the hard work of integrating our new common areas, overseeing the management of these assets and assuring our neighbors of the enhanced lifestyle activities they deserve. We need a Board that incorporates many talents, some of which I possess, to manage our many service providers, contractors and provide strong financial control of our expanded resources.
Since 2023 I have demonstrated and proven my commitment to serve our community and pledge to continue that same level of dedication for the next two years.
My Personal Background
- I graduated from USC using the GI bill following service in the US Army.
- I spent several years in public accounting and joined Imperial Bank, Los Angeles, as Assistant Controller. I was promoted to Controller and principal accounting officer of the bank holding company.
- Following a 7-year sojourn in Durango, Colorado with operating experience in underground mining and manufacturing, my wife, Linda, and I relocated back to Southern California.
- We retired in 2000 and moved to Creston CA near Paso Robles. We found Trilogy in 2015, decided to downsize and love living with you in this beautiful and vibrant community.
My Professional Background
- I spent my final 13 years in business as SVP and CFO of Imperial Premium Finance, a national specialty lender headquartered in Southern California.
- At Imperial, I managed accounting, tax, financial and regulatory reporting, and treasury as well as human resources and facilities management. Most of my time was spent on raising liquidity to support a growing loan portfolio, but also underwriting and approval of loans more than $1M and workouts of troubled loans.
- Additionally, I was responsible for marketing and maintaining a program for individual agents and brokers who wished to maintain their own loan portfolios utilizing our liquidity facilities.
My Background and Experience that benefits TLQMA
- During my career I have served on numerous boards including the California Bankers Committee on Taxation, the Budget Committee of La Plata County, the Torrance, CA Water Commission, a property owners’ board and a community rodeo association.
- At Trilogy I have served on the Finance Advisory Committee, and as the Assistant Treasuer have acted as the Board liaison to the committee
- I was appointed to the Board in mid-2023 to replace another Board member, and the experience has given me profound insights as to what it takes to manage our community and build a future for everyone who lives in Trilogy.
My Platform
- I believe that the job of a Board member is to manage both the finances and expectations of us all. Financially, we need to be continually conscious of our fiduciary duties to safeguard our funds and assure that they are spent wisely. Our monthly dues contributions are our primary source of community funding and a precious resource.
- Secondly, we need to listen to what our neighbors say about their lifestyle and needs and how they are being met by the services and amenities Trilogy offers. The complex negotiations leading to the recent acquisition of our golf course and restaurant is a major accomplishment of the Board of Directors for our community and I congratulate all of us for our roles in making that happen.
- In addition to seeing the integration of those assets through, the Board has to also give strong continual attention to the resources we employ to provide the best possible environment for all community members to come home to. Safety, value, beauty, usability and the ongoing care of our streets, common areas and club house campus are all chief initiatives that must be considered.
- I promise to come to work for you each day, prepared and ready to keep Trilogy a great place to live and play. While I strongly promote positive community involvement in major decisions affecting our community, at the end of the day we all need to support decisions made by our Board of Directors or by the community as a whole when an issue is put to a vote of our members.
