I am Mark Reider and one of the 3 candidates running together for our open Board positions.
- I’m running for re-election and doing so with Tom Hansen and Elaine Brown to provide stability, integrity and leadership for Trilogy; and to preserve, protect and enhance our community along a 3 point platform that promotes:
- Building a strong foundation for our relationship with BlueStar Resort and Golf as we forge our future together for the Golf Club and our Hospitality offerings through the Santa Rosa Club.
- Taking bold action when necessary to continue to improve our Common Areas so that we balance our desire to live in a first class, top tier community while we look forward to the needs of future generations of Trilogy residents.
- To do so while exercising the necessary fiscal responsibility that comes with being on the Board of Directors, being mindful of making the hard decisions that are sometimes required to strike the proper balance that is needed to move forward successfully.
My Personal and Professional Background
- As a lifelong resident of Southern California, I have lived in a Community Association for over 30 years. As a resident of Trilogy with my wife Maureen since the end of 2009, what brought us here were the amenities, the lifestyle and the feeling of Trilogy. We have seen many positive changes take place over the past 15 years.
- As a member and officer of the Board of Directors for the past four years, the last two as its President, and before that as its Vice President & Treasurer, being a member of the Executive Committee for four years dealing with our Golf Course issues ranging from arbitration, legal actions, multiple bankruptcies, completing complex negotiations of the various Purchase and Sales Agreements, presenting at over 20 Town Halls, Focus Groups, and Q&A sessions leading to the preparing the Ballot Informational Materials and the passage of the Ballot Measure to acquire the properties by our Community, I believe I have provided the requisite skills to Trilogy to continue on the Board of Directors for another term.
- I further believe that the members of our next Board of Directors will be critical to continue on the paths we have undertaken to improve our facilities, build a strong foundation with BlueStar to manage our Hospitality offerings and operate the Golf Club facilities, and manage our finances for our day-to-day operations and long-term reserves, all for the betterment of our community’s future and in achieving our strategic goals and objectives.
- I have a near 40 year career in the banking industry, the last 20 of which was spent as the Managing Director and Industry Manager of Union Bank’s HOA Services Division that began as a start up department and grew through the creation and execution of multiple strategic, marketing and financial plans, completing two acquisitions of other bank’s HOA departments, and becoming one of the leading Association Banks in the country when I retired in 2016.
- At the time of my retirement, I led a division of 38 people in Sales, Relationship Management, Marketing and Training, providing banking, investment and lending services to approximately 1,000 management companies and over 26,000 associations across the nation with over $3.5 Billion in operating and reserve deposits.
- My banking career and Board experience, plus working directly with the Finance, Communications and Compliance Committees plus our Ad Hoc Golf Committee and our newly formed Golf Club Advisory Committee brings to the TLQMA Board the ability to manage people and promote teamwork, create and execute strategies that deliver results, and identify and solve problems while considering and balancing various points of view.
- I believe my background, and my current experience as a TLQMA Board Member and President makes me uniquely qualified to continue to help our association reach our goals for the future while considering how Board decisions must take into consideration the diverse views and desires of the entire Trilogy community.
My HOA Industry Background
- As part of Union Bank's industry focus, I was also very involved in the trade associations that serve the HOA industry on a state and national level.
- As a member of the Community Associations Institute (CAI), I attended and participated in countless luncheons, trade shows and seminars geared towards educating Board Members and Community Association Managers, and I served for 3 years on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Greater LA Chapter of CAI. I also served as the Golf Committee chair for 10 years, which was the largest fundraiser for the chapter, receiving the Chapter's Rising Star and President's Awards.
- In addition, to further demonstrate our bank’s support for the industry, I earned my designation as a Certified Manager of Community Associations (CMCA) in 2009, which I held until my retirement in 2016.
- Prior to joining Trilogy’s Board, I was a member of the TLQMA Finance Committee from 2018 - 2020, and was its Board liaison officer during my first two years on the Board. I have had the opportunity to actively participate in our budgeting process, to review our financial statements, investments, reserve study, plus other financial matters brought before the committee and make recommendations as part of the committee to the Board of Directors for their approval. This continued during my tenure as Board President.
- As Board members, we have the opportunity to work with all of the Advisory Committees that can impact our community in many different ways. My belief is that these committees can play an important role in advising the Board in managing our community, and my experience in working with all of them over the past four years has been very helpful in shaping that perspective.
- Finally, building successful relationships and a sense of teamwork is vitally important for a smoothly operating Board of Directors. Different points of views must be welcomed, challenged, and eventually become merged into a cohesive policy position that every Board member can support. Getting to that point requires an open mind, a commitment to listening and the steadfastness to make difficult decisions with a sense of unanimity for what is ultimately in the best interest of the entire community as a whole.
- I believe I have provided the framework for that type of environment, and why it’s important to continue on the paths we have laid out for Trilogy into the future.
I hope with my professional background and experience, plus my service to TLQMA, I can earn your support and your vote in our upcoming election.
